Injured Capriati pulls out of Olympics

ATHENS, Greece, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- American Jennifer Capriati withdrew from the Olympic Games Tuesday because of a persistent leg injury.

The 28-year-old Capriati has been bothered by a hamstring problem that forced her to withdraw from a tournament in Los Angeles last month.

Capriati won a gold medal in the Olympics as a 16-year-old in 1992. She did not compete in the 1996 and 2000 Games.

The Olympic tennis tournament begins Sunday in Athens, Greece. Sisters Serena and Venus Williams lead the U.S. team.
