Eagles' Jevon Kearse sprains ankle

BETHLEHEM, Pa., Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Jevon Kearse is sidelined on a day-to-day basis with an ankle sprain.

The 27-year-old Kearse, who signed with the Eagles this year after five seasons with the Tennessee Titans, underwent X-rays after he was injured Monday during practice at Lehigh University.

"It's not a high-ankle sprain, it's a lateral-ankle sprain," Eagles trainer Rick Burkholder said. "Those things in general are day-to-day. He's day-to-day. We're treating it as any other lateral-ankle sprain right now."

Kearse said he expects to play Friday in the Eagles' pre-season opener against the New England Patriots.

Tennessee drafted Kearse out of Florida in 1999. He had 85 tackles and 14 1/2 sacks in his rookie year, helping lead the Titans to the Super Bowl.
