SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 8 (UPI) -- The San Jose Earthquakes won 2-0 over D.C. United side Saturday night at Spartan Stadium.

Brian Mullan hit for a goal in the first half before setting up Dwayne De Rosario's blistering world-class volley late in the match that sealed it for the Earthquakes.

His first attempt on goal was blocked, but he tried his luck again and beat goalkeeper Troy Perkins to the back post.

San Jose's second goal came after Mullan crossed a long ball from the right flank that De Rosario connected with a first-time, right-footed strike from just inside the box that rattled off the underside of the bar on its way into the back of the net.
