DETROIT, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- A solo home run by all-star second baseman Alfonso Soriano in the sixth inning Thursday propelled the Texas Rangers to a 2-1 victory over Detroit.

The win completed a three-game sweep of the Tigers.

The homer was Soriano's 21st of the season. He added a triple and single. His three RBI ran his total for the season to 69.

Winning pitcher Ryan Drese (8-6) allowed one run and six hits over six innings. He walked three and struck out four.

Detroit starter Wilfredo Ledezma, making his second start of the season, surrendered just one run and two hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Esteban Yan (1-3), who gave up the Soriano shot, was the loser.
