U.S. athlete ineligible for Olympics

COOLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Aug. 2 (UPI) -- United States sprinter Calvin Harrison, suspended for a second doping violation, will not compete in the Olympic Games.

The United States Anti-Doping Agency announced Monday that Harrison tested positive for the prohibited stimulant modafinil at the 2003 U.S. Outdoor Track and Field championships at Stanford on June 23, 2003.

The suspension followed a hearing before an independent three-member arbitration panel, which rejected Harrison's appeal of the test results.

Harrison previously tested positive for a prohibited stimulant at the 1993 U.S. junior indoor championships. He served a three-month suspension for that violation and as a repeat offender was issued the two-year ban, which takes effect as of July 26, 2004 -- the date of his hearing.

Harrison loses all competitive results and winnings from the date of the positive test, including his second-place finish in the 400 meters at the 2003 U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
