Summerall to broadcast for ESPN

Aug. 2, 2004 at 3:35 PM   |   Comments

NEW YORK, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Veteran play-by-play announcer Pat Summerall will be back in the broadcast booth in time for the ESPN's pre-season football games.

Summerall, 74, has been on the sidelines since April when he underwent a liver transplant. He will be replacing Mike Patrick, who will have heart bypass surgery in the next few weeks. Patrick is expected to be back for the regular season.

After playing in the NFL for 10 years as a kicker and tight end in Chicago and New York, Summerall did play-by-play for CBS and FOX from the 1960s through the '90s.
