MLB: Minnesota 4, Boston 3

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Orlando Cabrera homered in his first at-bat for Boston, but his error in the eighth cost the go-ahead run Sunday as Minnesota beat the Red Sox, 4-3.

The Red Sox suffered their second straight one-run loss. Boston had just two hits, homers by Cabrera and Manny Ramirez. The Twins won for the 11th time in their last 13 games.

The Red Sox had a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the eighth, but starter Pedro Martinez was lifted and the Twins scored a pair of runs against the Boston bullpen.

Cristian Guzman and Lew Ford started the inning with singles off Mike Timlin (4-4). Justin Morneau drove in Guzman with the tying run.

The throw from Gabe Kapler short-hopped Cabrera in the infield. The shortstop allowed Ford to race home with the go-ahead run.

The rally made a winner of Johan Santana (10-6), who struck out 12 and walked one.
