MLB: Atlanta 8, NY Mets 0

ATLANTA, July 31 (UPI) -- Johnny Estrada had a three-run homer and Jaret Wright gave up three hits in seven innings Saturday as the Atlanta Braves beat the New York Mets, 8-0.

Estrada was 3-for-4 with four RBI to help Atlanta win its eighth in nine games. J.D. Drew and Chipper Jones each had two RBI.

Wright (9-5) had six strikeouts and did not walk a batter to improve to 7-0 in his last 13 starts. The righthander hasn't lost since May 22 versus Los Angeles and lowered his ERA to 3.05. He also had two hits and scored twice.

Newly-acquired starter Kris Benson (8-9) made his debut for New York. The ex-Pirate gave up seven runs on seven hits in five innings.

The Mets had five hits on the way to their ninth defeat in their last 12 games.

New York trails the NL-East leading Braves by eight games.
