ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., July 29 (UPI) -- Rob Bell threw 6 1/3 shutout innings Thursday night as Tampa Bay blanked the Kansas City Royals, 2-0.

Tino Martinez had three hits and drove in a run.

Bell (4-4) gave up four hits and struck out three as Tampa Bay finished off a series sweep. The Devil Rays had lost six games in a row before Kansas City came to town.

Mike Wood (1-3) was the hard-luck loser, giving up two runs on seven hits in seven-plus innings.

The Royals have lost 10 of their last 11 and also learned Thursday that Juan Gonzalez will likely miss the rest of the season with back problems
