SAN DIEGO, July 28 (UPI) -- Jason Schmidt got his 13th victory of the season Tuesday as San Francisco beat the San Diego Padres 6-4.

Schmidt (13-3) pitched eight innings, allowing seven hits and three runs. He struck out seven batters. Matt Herges got his 23rd save.

Dustin Mohr hit a two-run homer, Barry Bonds added a two-run double and Ray Durham scored twice for the Giants.

Phil Nevin had three hits for the Padres.

The loser was San Diego left-hander David Wells (6-6), who gave up 10 hits and six runs in six innings.
