Haggans out with broken fingers

PITTSBURGH, July 27 (UPI) -- Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Clark Haggans will be sidelined more than three weeks with two broken fingers on his right hand, the team announced Tuesday.

Haggans was injured while lifting weights recently and underwent surgery to have pins inserted in the fingers to help speed the healing process.

Coach Bill Cowher said Haggans could be back on the field around Aug. 19.

"I think right now we are shooting for the third pre-season game for him to be ready to go," Cowher said. "Everything has gone well with the surgery. I know Clark is very disappointed, (but) we will deal with it."

Alonzo Jackson will replace Haggans at training camp, which starts Friday.
