HOCKENHEIM, Germany, July 24 (UPI) -- Michael Schumacher Saturday took the pole for Sunday's Formula One German Grand Prix.

The pole victory was Schumacher's sixth of the season and 61st of his F1 career. He is now just four pole wins behind all-time record holder Ayrton Senna's record of 65 poles. It is also the 100th front row start of Schumacher's career.

Schumacher leads the 2004 championship by a 100-74 margin over teammate Rubens Barrichello, who will start eighth.

Starting on the front row with Schumacher will be last year's German GP pole and race winner Juan Montoya who circled the track in 1:13:668.

Jenson Button (1:13.674) would have started third), but was forced to change engines after Friday's practice session and was docked 10 places on the starting grid.
