Ole Miss suspends two after arrests

OXFORD, Miss., July 20 (UPI) -- Two University of Mississippi football players arrested in Memphis during the weekend were suspended indefinitely Monday by Coach David Cutcliffe.

Running back Jamal Pittman and linebacker Ken Bournes were arrested after being involved in an altercation. Details were not released by the Shelby County (Tenn.) Sheriff's Department.

"We are gathering information surrounding the events regarding the arrest of Jamal Pittman and Ken Bournes in Memphis, Tenn. over the weekend," Cutcliffe said in a statement on the school's Web site. "At this time, they are suspended indefinitely from all football related activities. As we gather information and assess the situation, we will then make a further statement."

Pittman, a sophomore from Columbia, Miss., has battled injuries while at Ole Miss and has undergone major surgery to both knees. He gained 214 yards on 42 carries last season but was held out of contact drills in the spring.

Bournes, a senior from Monticello, Miss., was listed as a starter coming out of spring practice.
