MLB: Atlanta 6, Montreal 2

ATLANTA, July 17 (UPI) -- Russ Ortiz allowed one hit over 7 2/3 innings and Marcus Giles hit a two-run homer in the seventh Saturday as Atlanta beat Montreal, 6-2.

Atlanta has won four 11 of its last 14 games.

Ortiz (11-6) walked five and fanned six as he improved to 5-0 with a 1.54 ERA over his last five outings.

John Smoltz got the final four outs for his 17th save. Smoltz allowed a ninth-inning single by Tony Batista before completing the combined two-hitter.

Trailing 2-1, Atlanta's Adam LaRoche tied the game with a homer into the right-field seats with one out in the bottom of the sixth.

Montreal starter Tony Armas was lifted after six innings of six-hit, two-run ball. Chad Bentz began the seventh by walking Rafael Furcal and then served up a two-run homer to Giles that put Atlanta up 4-2.
