SACRAMENTO, July 15 (UPI) -- Marion Jones won a spot on the Olympic team Thursday night by capturing the long jump at the American trials.
Jones, who is under investigation for possible drug use but who was cleared to compete in the track and field trials because she had not failed a drug test, won the long jump with a leap of 23-4.
It was the second best jump in the world this year and the best for Jones in six years.
Earlier in the trials, Jones failed in her bid to make the Olympic team in the 100-meter dash. She still has a chance to earn a spot in the 200.
Grace Upshaw finished second in the long jump to clinch a trip to Athens next month.
Other finalist winners Thursday night included Jeremy Wariner (400), Erin Gilreath (hammer throw) and Daniel Lincoln (steeplechase).
