CHICAGO, July 15 (UPI) -- Sports legend Mike Ditka may have declined to run for U.S. Senate, but he's joining a Chicago television station to analyze the 2004 Bears.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame member and former Chicago Bears coach has signed a contract for a weekly segment on "Da Bears" with WBBM-TV sportscaster and former NFL player Mark Malone.

The segment will begin with a preview of Bears pre-season football starting in August and continue on Fridays during the season. Ditka is a football analyst for ESPN and appears on WSCR-AM, Chicago's all-sports station.

"To have the legendary Mike Ditka join this team means that more and more people will be turning to CBS this fall," said Channel 2 President and General Manager Joe Ahern.

Ditka passed on replacing Jack Ryan as the Republican U.S. Senate candidate in the November election. More than 6,000 people had signed a petition to draft Ditka for the race.
