HUNTERSVILLE, N.C., July 14 (UPI) -- Michael "Fatback" McSwain, one of the most well-known crew chiefs in NASCAR racing, was fired Wednesday by Joe Gibbs Racing.
McSwain had been crew chief for Bobby Labonte's team.

"Sometimes it's hard to solidify chemistry between two people," McSwain said of his relationship with Labonte. "It doesn't mean you don't have some, and we didn't have any unbearable disagreements or conversations."
Labonte has yet to win in 2003 after collecting two victories last year.
"We've had good weeks and bad weeks, but it was a big surprise, I'll give you that," McSwain said. "If we were 25th in points, I probably wouldn't be so disappointed. But being in the position we were in (sixth), it's disappointing."
