Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

SACRAMENTO, July 12 (UPI) -- World 100-meter record holder Tim Montgomery, recently charged with doping offenses by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, has failed to qualify for the Olympics.
Two years ago he nailed a world record 9.78 seconds in Paris. But since charges were brought against him, on the basis of so-called non-analytical positives, his performance has suffered, the Telegraph reports.
During the weekend he managed to barely scrape by in the quarter-finals and semis at the U.S. Olympic trials and was never in contention in the finals.
Maurice Greene posted the best time, 9.91, with Justin Gatlin second and Shawn Crawford third.
