Tony Stewart wins NASCAR Tropicana 400

JOLIET, Ill., July 11 (UPI) -- Tony Stewart captured the NASCAR Nextel Cup Tropicana 400 Sunday and was involved in another controversial incident.

The field was getting ready for a restart on the 128th lap, with Kasey Kahne's Chevrolet Monte Carlo leading Stewart's Chevrolet. Kahne was slow on the restart and Stewart appeared to shove him out of the way, triggering an eight-car pileup.

Tommy Baldwin, the general manager of Kahne's team, went to Stewart's pit area to confront crew chief Greg Zipadelli.

Stewart made the winning pass with 27 laps to go when he went outside to get by Jeremy Mayfield.

Stewart led five times for 160 laps. It was Stewart's 18th win in 194 career NASCAR starts and first since Charlotte, 23 races ago. He defeated Nextel Cup points leader Jimmie Johnson by 2.925 seconds.

Dale Jarrett's Ford Taurus was third, followed by the Monte Carlo of Jeff Gordon and Mayfield's Dodge.
