White Sox place Thomas on DL

CHICAGO, July 10 (UPI) -- The Chicago White Sox on Saturday placed designated hitter Frank Thomas on the 15-day disabled list.

Thomas is making his fourth trip to the DL due to left ankle tendinitis. He suffered the injury on June 17 in Florida and aggravated it last week during a three-game series at Minnesota.

"I worry about him," White Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen said Friday, when the team announced it soon would place Thomas on the DL. "I don't want him to get worse. Hopefully, he can come back ready to play."

Thomas is batting .271 with 18 homers and 49 RBI. He was hitless in his last nine at-bats and has not played since Tuesday. The 36-year-old Thomas leads the American League in walks (64) and on-base percentage (.434).
