Gaudio reaches Swedish Open semifinals

BASTAD, Sweden, July 9 (UPI) -- French Open champion Gaston Gaudio reached the Swedish Open semifinals Friday with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Rafael Nadal of Spain.

Gaudio, the second seed from Argentina, won his 12th straight claycourt match.

He will next meet Sweden's Robin Soderling, who ousted Juan Ignacia Chela of Argentina 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2.

Chilean Fernando Gonzalez and defending champion Mariano Zabaleta of Argentina will meet in the other semifinal match.

Gonzalez advanced with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Juan Monaco of Argentina and Zabaleta eliminated Spain's Alberto Martin 6-1, 6-2.
