Reds Matthews undergoes elbow surgery

CINCINNATI, July 6 (UPI) -- Cincinnati lefthander Mike Matthews has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his pitching elbow, the team announced Tuesday.

Dr. Timothy Kremcheck performed the procedure at Beacon Orthopaedic Center in Cinncinnati. Matthews is expected to begin throwing lightly in two to three weeks.

Matthews, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list, is 2-1 with an 8.84 ERA in 22 appearances this season.
