WASQUEHAL, France, July 6 (UPI) -- Frenchman Jean-Patrick Nazon won a sprint finish Tuesday to claim the third stage of the Tour de France.
Australian Robbie McEwen took the yellow jersey as the overall leader.
Nazon, who won the final stage of the Tour last year on the Champs Elysees, beat German Erik Zabel and McEwan to the line on Tuesday. He covered the stage in 4 hours, 36 minutes, 45 seconds.
American Lance Armstrong, who is seeking his record sixth straight Tour victory, finished 85th in Tuesday's stage and is fifth overall, 16 seconds behind McEwan.
McEwen looked set to record his second straight stage victory after making an early break for the finishing line, but was unable to hold on as both Nazon and Zabel passed him in the final few miles.
McEwen's effort moved him one second ahead of Switzerland's Fabian Cancellara for the overall lead.
