DUBLIN, Ireland, July 2 (UPI) -- Retief Goosen, fresh off his second U.S. Open title, shot a 6-under 66 Friday that put him two shots in front after two rounds of the European Open.
Goosen posted a two-day total of 9-under 135 while Maarten Lafeber was alone in second. Lee Westwood was third at 138 and Nick O'Hern was fourth at 139.
The second round was played amid high winds and occasional rain.
"I would rather go and stroll somewhere else where it's warmer, but I'm expecting to play well," Goosen said. "I'm here to see if I can win the tournament.
"I wouldn't say it's going to be any easier to win here than in the U.S. Open. To win any tournament around the world you have to play your best. If the weather stays like this, I don't think I need to go very low at the weekend."
