EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., June 30 (UPI) -- Ed Stefanski is the new general manager of the New Jersey Nets.

Stefanski's promotion was announced Tuesday by Nets CEO Rod Thorn, the former GM.

"Ed is a keen evaluator of basketball talent," Thorn said. "He is ideally suited for the demands of his new position."

Stefanski, 50, was the Nets' senior vice president of basketball operations last year after four seasons as their director of scouting.

Stefanski, who was on the University of Pennsylvania basketball team in the 1970s, is the former coach at his high school alma mater, Monsignor Bonner in Drexel Hill, Pa.
