Elie joins Warriors' staff

OAKLAND, Calif., June 28 (UPI) -- Mario Elie, who spent 11 seasons as a player in the NBA, including two with Golden State, returned to the Warriors Monday as an assistant coach.

Elie, 40, was an assistant with the San Antonio Spurs last season.

He joins the staff of the recently hired Mike Montgomery.

"We are delighted to add a person with Mario's experience and character to our staff," said Warriors Vice President Chris Mullin. "He had an extremely successful career as an NBA player and knows what it takes to be a winner in this league. His experience on the bench with San Antonio this past season has prepared him well for this opportunity."

Elie made the playoffs in all of his seasons as a player and his only season as a coach.

He averaged 8.6 points 732 games with six teams.
