BBM: Detroit 9, Arizona 5

DETROIT, June 27 (UPI) -- Carlos Pena hit a grand slam with two out in the bottom of the ninth Sunday to give Detroit a 9-5 win over Arizona which took its ninth straight loss.

After Omar Infante led off the ninth with a double, reliever Mike Koplove replaced Brandon Villafuerte (0-2). Bobby Higginson flied out and Koplove intentionally walked Guillen and Dmitri Young to load the bases.

It looked like a good move when Koplove struck out Rondell White, but Pena sent a 3-2 pitch just over the right field fence for his 10th homer of the season and second career grand slam.

Danny Patterson and Jamie Walker (1-2) combined for four scoreless innings after Tigers starter Mike Maroth allowed five runs and nine hits in five innings.

Danny Bautista hit a three-run homer in the third to give Arizona a 3-2 lead and Shea Hillenbrand and Greg Colbrunn had RBI singles in the sixth.
