COLUMBUS, Ohio, June 26 (UPI) -- The Colorado Rapids got a pair of goals late in the first half and ended a four-match winless streak Saturday with a 2-1 win over the Columbus Crew.
Jean-Philippe Peguero opened the scoring in the 37th minute. The Haitian international got a pass from defender Matt Crawford, withstood a challenge at the top of the box and put a half-volley past goalkeeper Jon Busch for his fourth goal of the season.
Colorado made it 2-0 seconds before halftime on an own goal by Eric Denton, who inadvertently deflected a cross into the box past Busch.
Columbus nearly broke through in the 85th minute, but Joe Cannon stopped a header by defender Chad Marshall. Edson Buddle scored four minutes later, but the Crew suffered their second straight loss.
