Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

DETROIT, June 23 (UPI) -- The Detroit Tigers Tuesday signed shortstop Carlos Guillen to a three-year contract extension through 2007.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Guillen, a career .264 hitter entering the season, is batting .322 with 49 runs scored, 17 doubles, seven triples, 10 home runs and 47 RBI in 67 games in 2004. He is third in the American League at his position with a .979 fielding percentage.
"I like it here," he told the Detroit Free Press. "I like this team a lot. I like my teammates and the city. This is where I want to be."
Guillen, 28, acquired from Seattle in January, is making $2.5 million this season with incentives worth another $900,000.
