OMAHA, June 23 (UPI) -- Texas advanced to the College World Series championship round Wednesday by rallying for a 7-6 win over Georgia.
Carson Kainer's one-out, RBI double in the seventh snapped a 6-6 tie after the Longhorns erased a 5-0 deficit with the help of four home runs.
Texas (58-13) improved to 3-0 in the double-elimination tournament and handed the Bulldogs their second loss. The Longhorns will meet either Cal. State Fullerton or South Carolina in the best-of-three championship round beginning Saturday.
The Longhorns' opponent will not be determined until Thursday night after South Carolina avoided elimination by defeating Cal. St. Fullerton, 5-3. Those two teams will play for a berth in the championship round Thursday evening.
South Carolina got three RBI from Bryan Triplett and three scoreless innings from closer Chad Blackwell.
Triplett stroked a two-run homer in the third and a go-ahead RBI single in the seventh.
Texas and South Carolina met for the championship two years ago with the Longhorns grabbing the title.
