ST. LOUIS, June 23 (UPI) -- Kyle Farnsworth's wild pitch in the eighth inning Wednesday night brought in the go-ahead run as St. Louis edged the Chicago Cubs, 10-9.
In a game filled with lead changes and timely hitting, St. Louis took advantage of one of the hardest throwers in the league.
So Taguchi opened the bottom of the eighth against Mike Remlinger (0-1) with a walk and John Mabry sacrificed. A groundout moved Taguchi to third and Farnsworth came on to face Edgar Renteria.
Farnsworth's first pitch was a rising fastball that hit Bako's glove as Taguchi raced home.
Steve Kline (2-1) notched the win with 1 2/3 hitless innings in relief.
St. Louis has won six of the 13 games played between the long-time rivals this season. Cubs second baseman Todd Walker matched a career high with four hits and Derrek Lee and Corey Patterson added three apiece.
Albert Pujols hit a three-run homer for St. Louis.
