HOUSTON, June 23 (UPI) -- Ryan Vogelsong allowed two hits in six innings and Jason Kendall hit a grand slam in the seventh Wednesday night as Pittsburgh defeated Houston, 7-2.
The Pirates snapped their 10-game road losing streak.
The Astros had won three straight, but had scored more than five runs in a game just once since May 31. They did little against a pitcher that entered with a 7.62 ERA and was winless in his last 12 starts.
Vogelsong (2-7) made his initial appearance against Houston an outstanding one, allowing one earned run. He surrendered a triple, a single and three walks.
Brian Meadows, Salomon Torres and Jose Mesa followed with a scoreless inning apiece as the Pirates snapped their longest road drought since 1985.
Houston starter Pete Munro (1-1) was tagged for four runs and four hits in 6 1/3 innings.
