MONTREAL, June 23 (UPI) -- Kevin Millwood pitched 6 1/3 innings Wednesday night and Jim Thome hit his 24th homer as Philadelphia downed Montreal, 5-2.
Thome leads the majors in home runs and he hit one of Philadelphia's three solo shots.
Millwood (5-5) won for the first time in eight starts dating to May 11 and pitched into the seventh inning for the sixth time in 15 starts. In his third win in as many starts against the Expos this season, Millwood allowed two runs and five hits, tied a season high with seven strikeouts and walked three.
The Phillies faced an early 1-0 deficit, but Thome tied the game by leading off the second with his fourth homer in as many games and 12th in his last 20 games.
After Bobby Abreu's RBI double in the fourth put Philadelphia ahead, Mike Lieberthal and David Bell added solo homers. It marked the 31st time this season the Phillies had at least two home runs in a game.
