BOSTON, June 23 (UPI) -- Carlos Silva worked into the seventh inning and Torii Hunter homered and drove in three runs Wednesday night, leading Minnesota past Boston, 4-2.
A surprise since being acquired from Philadelphia in the winter, Silva (8-4) leads all Twins starters in wins.
Silva added another victory by limiting the Red Sox to two runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. He walked two, struck out two and was aided by two double plays.
Juan Rincon retired all five batters he faced and Joe Nathan worked around a leadoff double in the ninth for his 20th save in 21 chances.
Hunter bounced into a forceout in the first to deliver a run and hit a two-run homer in the sixth, giving the Twins a 4-0 lead. He matched his season high with three RBI.
Derek Lowe (6-6) gave up four runs and seven hits in seven innings.
Red Sox second baseman Pokey Reese left the game after two innings with a strained left thumb.
