Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 23 (UPI) -- Dee Brown's two-run single capped a four-run first inning Wednesday night and Kansas City used a quality start from Darrell May to down Detroit, 7-3.
The Tigers lost their fifth straight.
May (5-8) gave up a two-run homer to Ivan Rodriguez in the top of the first but allowed little else over the next six innings. He surrendered nine hits without a walk and struck out four.
With one out in the bottom of the first, Carlos Beltran doubled off Tigers starter Gary Knotts (4-2) and Mike Sweeney followed with a double. One out later, Matt Stairs walked and Randa evened the score with a double.
Brown followed with a single to center that drove in Stairs and Randa and gave May the lead for good.
