CHICAGO, June 23 (UPI) -- Pinch-hitter Ben Broussard's grand slam homer in the eighth broke open a tight game Wednesday night as Cleveland outlasted the Chicago White Sox, 9-5.
One night earlier, Cleveland overcame an eight-run deficit, only to lose in 10 innings. The Indians trailed only briefly in this one and took a 5-4 lead into the eighth.
White Sox starter Mark Buehrle (7-2) left after giving up singles to Victor Martinez, Casey Blake and Travis Hafner. Broussard drilled the first pitch from reliever Mike Jackson over the right field fence for his first homer since April 18.
It was the first grand slam by an Indians pinch hitter in 17 years.
Broussard was batting for Lou Merloni, who hit one of two solo shots off Buehrle in the sixth.
Ronnie Belliard and Casey Blake also homered for Cleveland, which has won three of its last four to improve to 5-4 on a 10-game road trip.
