BALTIMORE, June 23 (UPI) -- David Newhan and Miguel Tejada combined for seven hits and seven RBI Wednesday night as Baltimore overwhelmed the New York Yankees, 13-2.
Baltimore snapped a nine-game losing streak against the Yankees, allowing Manager Lee Mazzilli to beat his former club for the first time.
Mazzilli was the Yankees' first base coach from 2000-03. Sitting in the opposite dugout, he watched his new team get outscored, 69-35, in the first seven meetings between the teams this season.
The Orioles snapped the skid in style, matching a season high in runs scored while establishing a season best with 17 hits.
Baltimore had a 7-2 lead entering the sixth, when New York loaded the bases with no outs. But former Yankee Jason Grimsley entered and worked out of the jam without allowing a run.
Erik Bedard (2-2) picked up the win, yielding two runs and seven hits while walking three and striking out three in five-plus innings.
