Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

CALGARY, Alberta, June 23 (UPI) -- Hockey Canada on Wednesday named former NHL journeyman Marc Habscheid the coach of its national team.
Habscheid agreed to a three-year contract and will guide Canada's international teams during that time, most notably for the World Hockey Championships.
His duties also include the preparation and input on player personnel decisions for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy.
In 2003, Habscheid coached the Canadian junior team to a silver medal at the world championships.
On Monday, Habscheid stepped down as coach of the Kelowna Rockets in the Western Hockey League after 4 1/2 years with the team. He recently led the junior club to a WHL title.
