SOC: Italy 2, Bulgaria 1

GUIMARES, Portugal, June 22 (UPI) -- Despite a last-gasp victory over Bulgaria Tuesday, Italy will not be advancing out of group play at Euro 2004.

Antonio Cassano scored in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time to lift Italy to a 2-1 triumph over Bulgaria, but Italy saw its hope of a quarterfinal berth extinguished when Sweden rallied to tie Denmark, 2-2.

Italy, Denmark and Sweden all finished with five points in Group C, but the Scandinavian countries advanced by virtue of having scored more goals in matches among the three teams.
