MLB: Boston 14, San Francisco 9

SAN FRANCISCO, June 19 (UPI) -- Kevin Millar's three-run homer capped a seven-run inning Friday night as the Boston Red Sox rallied for a wild 14-9 victory over the San Francisco Giants.

The Red Sox trailed 7-2 heading into the fifth, with knuckleballer Tim Wakefield at the helm. But Boston erupted as David Ortiz belted a two-run homer and Manny Ramirez followed with a solo shot.

Giants starter Jerome Williams looked like he would get out of the inning, but shortstop Deivi Cruz botched a pop-up with two outs. Pokey Reese followed with a fly ball that was dropped by right fielder Michael Tucker, allowing a run to score.

Tyler Walker came on and Millar, batting for Wakefield, hit a fly ball to left field that went off the glove of Barry Bonds and over the wall, giving the Red Sox a 9-7 lead.

Mike Timlin (4-2) worked 2 2/3 scoreless innings for the win, allowing just one hit. Williams surrendered eight runs -- five earned -- and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.
