LISBON, Portugal, June 13 (UPI) -- France captain Zinedine Zidane scored twice in injury time Sunday to ambush England, 2-1, in an Euro 2004 showdown.

England appeared to be holding on for a 1-0 victory before Zidane curled in a free kick in the first minute of extra time.

He converted a penalty with almost the final kick of the match after David James brought down Thierry Henry.

France, which had not conceded a goal in nearly a year, dominated the first half before midfielder Frank Lampard headed David Beckham's 38th-minute free kick past goalkeeper Fabien Barthez.

Lampard's goal was the first allowed by France in 1,077 minutes.
