Garcia playoff birdie wins Buick Classic

HARRISON, N.Y., June 13 (UPI) -- Sergio Garcia made it 2-for-2 in playoffs this year when he birdied the third sudden-death hole Sunday to win the Buick Classic.

Garcia watched as Ireland's Padraig Harrington lipped out a birdie attempt at the first sudden-death hole, the par-5 18th. Harrington dropped out with a bogey, reducing the playoff to a duel between Garcia and South Africa's Rory Sabbatini.

Playing the 18th hole for the third time on the afternoon, Sabbatini missed a 21-foot birdie try, but Garcia sank his seven-footer for his fifth career PGA Tour triumph.

Garcia also won last month's Byron Nelson Championship in a playoff, ending a victory drought of more than two years.
