Doyle wins rain-shortened Bayer senior

PARKVILLE, Minn., June 13 (UPI) -- Allen Doyle captured the Champions Tour Bayer Advantage Celebrity Pro-Am after Sunday's final round was canceled due to overnight storms.

The National Golf Club of Kansas City course sustained heavy damage after a storm passed through the area with heavy rains and winds in excess of 60 miles per hour. The course received more than four inches of rain during the week and was deemed unplayable by tournament officials.

Doyle completed 36 holes at 13-under-par 131 to notch his ninth career Champions Tour victory. It was his first win since the FleetBoston Classic last August.

The 55-year-old grabbed sole possession of the lead with a second-round 6-under 66.

Jerry Pate matched the course record Saturday with a 65 and completed the event at 12-under.

Andy Bean, who shared the first-round lead with Doyle and John Harris, tied for third with Mark James, Bob Gilder and David Eger.
