MLB: Detroit 4, Atlanta 2

DETROIT, June 9 (UPI) -- Eric Munson and Carlos Guillen homered Wednesday night as Detroit withstood a lengthy rain delay en route to a 4-2 victory over Atlanta.

After a delay of nearly 2 1/2 hours, Detroit won for the just the fourth time in 12 games. The game was delayed in the second inning with the Tigers holding a 1-0 lead. When the game resumed, Munson hit a two-run homer to right field off rookie Travis Smith to stake Detroit to a 3-0 advantage with two outs in the fourth.

Chipper Jones hit a solo shot to cut the deficit to 3-1 in the top of the sixth, but Guillen connected in the bottom half. It was his ninth of the season and third in five games.

Guillen collected three hits and scored on Munson's seventh homer of the season. He just missed a four-hit night when he bounced into a double play in the eighth.

After the delay ended starter Detroit starter Jeremy Bonderman's night, Craig Dingman (1-0) pitched three scoreless innings for his first career victory.
