AUBURN, Ala., June 8 (UPI) -- Auburn is in the market for a new baseball coach to replace Steve Renfroe, who was fired.
"We appreciate the years of service Steve has provided to Auburn, but after looking at the program closely I felt it was time to make a change," university President Ed Richardson said Monday. "We will begin the search for a new baseball coach immediately."
In four seasons, Renfroe posted a record of 145-92 and was 60-60 in the Southeast Conference. This season, Auburn finished with an overall record of 32-24 and missed post-season play for the first time in eight years. The Tigers were 12-18 in the SEC.
Renfroe became head coach Sept. 1, 1999, after many years as an assistant.
He is the third coach to leave the school since Richardson was named its president in March. Cliff Ellis was fired as men's basketball coach and Joe Ciampi retired as women's basketball coach this spring.
