ST. LOUIS, June 7 (UPI) -- St. Louis slugger Albert Pujols will likely miss a four-game series against Chicago because of a strained left hamstring, the Cardinals reported.
Officially, the first baseman, injured during a 3-2 loss to Houston Sunday, has been listed as day-to-day, but a decision to place him on the 15-day disabled list is being considered, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
"On exam, he's got no defect," said Dr. George Paletta, the Cardinals' head team physician. "It doesn't appear that he's torn the muscle. So the question is, did it just spasm and cramp on him real bad, or did he strain it? Tomorrow (Monday) we'll probably be able to tell better."
Pujols, the reigning National League batting champion, is batting .325 and is tied for the major league home run lead with 17.
