The Shock stormed back from a 15-point second half deficit led by Deanna Nolan, who scored 12 of her 19 points in the final 20 minutes. She gave Detroit its first lead at 64-63 on a jumper with 3:59 to go.

Nykesha Sales made a basket with 70 seconds left and rookie Lindsey Whalen made two free throws 18 seconds later to give the Sun a 73-70 edge. Ford responded with a quick layup and Connecticut's Taj McWilliams-Franklin was called for traveling with 12 seconds to go.

Nolan missed a jumper at the other end, but Elaine Powell grabbed the rebound and fed Ford, who sank a layup with less than two seconds on the clock.
