MLB: Florida 5, New York Mets 1

NEW YORK, June 4 (UPI) -- Armando Benitez shrugged off a loud chorus of boos to record his 21st save of the season Friday night as Florida downed the New York Mets, 4-1.

Florida snapped a four-game losing streak and the Mets had a four-game winning streak come to an end.

Benitez, an object of scorn during his tenure with the Mets, retired all four batters he faced. He extended his string of hitless innings to 13. Benitez has not allowed a run in a career-high 30 consecutive innings, lowering his ERA to a remarkable 0.29.

Carl Pavano (5-2) cooled off New York, allowing one run and six hits in 7 2/3 innings with no walks and three strikeouts. Cliff Floyd accounted for the Mets' only run with a two-out home run in the first inning.

The Marlins tied it on Mike Redmond's sacrifice fly in the fourth before scoring three runs in the sixth off New York starter Steve Trachsel (5-4), who yielded four runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.
