Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
DUBLIN, Ohio, June 3 (UPI) -- Jesper Parnevik has rejoined the European Tour and will be eligible for Ryder Cup selection, but he is still not particularly happy about it.
"I still think the policy is wrong," Parnevik said Thursday while competing at The Memorial.
Parnevik was referring to the rule that requires players to compete in 11 European Tour events to be eligible for a Ryder Cup selection.
Last month, the Swede resigned his tour membership because he was unwilling to meet the 11-event requirement. But he subsequently discovered that the U.S. and British Open qualifiers would count towards that number.
More importantly, Parnevik has been told by Ryder Cup captain Bernhard Langer that if he doesn't make the team, he will not have to complete his 11 events. Parnevik previously was under the impression he would be banned from the tour for two years if he did not play the 11 events.
"The penalty has gone and that's what made my mind up," said Parnevik, who shot a 75 in the first round.
