NURBURG, Germany, May 30 (UPI) -- Michael Schumacher got back to winning ways on home soil at the Nurburgring with a dominant victory Sunday in the European Grand Prix.

Schumacher saw his perfect record in grand prix this season come to an end last weekend at Monaco when he crashed out.

The six-time World Champion led from pole position and never looked threatened as he claimed his 76th Formula One win by 17.9 seconds over Ferrari teammate Rubens Barrichello of Brazil, who helped the Italian team to its fourth 1-2 finish this season.

It was Schumacher's sixth win in seven races this season. He took a 14-point lead over second-place Barrichello in the drivers' standings.

Barrichello beat BAR's Jenson Button of Britain to second place. Button inherited third when teammate Takuma Sato of Japan lost his front wing following a clash with Barrichello.

Monaco winner Jarno Trulli of Italy was fourth with Fernando Alonso of Spain fifth.
